…from the WEST
Originally this was intended to be a very short book named, “A Very Brief History of the Western Esoteric Spiritual Tradition”. As time has gone on, it seemed more appropriate to make it instead a series of articles and comments on elements of what scholars and academics have come to call the Western Esoteric Tradition. I actually prefer “Western Esoteric Spiritual Tradition”. Partly because it makes the acronym WEST - much more classy than WET☺️ - and also because it enshrines wordplay from a very important strand of the esoteric tradition, the Kabbalah.
What exactly does this Western Esoteric Spiritual Tradition encompass? Anyone who has played with Tarot cards, or looked up their daily astrology forecast, or investigated reincarnation, or indeed become familiar with a huge array of spiritual understandings - especially if you have completed a Wyse Art course, has accessed this very old tradition which extends back to ancient Egypt (according to scholars) and, according to teachers in the Western Tradition, originates in Atlantis.
The Western Esoteric Spiritual Tradition is not just a historical playground for contemporary scholars to frolic in. It contains understandings that revolutionise human consciousness and behaviour if we begin to take them on board. What’s more, it continues to evolve. Once we move to a spiritual understanding, then we understand self. When we understand self, then we begin to understand conflict, pain and suffering in the world. We perceive the forces operating behind war and peace. We experience the realities of life and death.
The Bronze Head of Roger Bacon
An enduring meme in the esoteric tradition speaks of an animated head, usually made of bronze, which could speak, provide information and even foretell the future.
In the 21st century we have our own version of this myth. It is called AI. I thought I should take advantage of this updated esoteric archetype and call upon it from time to time. I first asked AI to create a beautiful image for me that would depict the Western Esoteric Spiritual Tradition - after all, a picture is worth a thousand words!
I shall post a few of AI’s pictures over the coming weeks, but here is its first attempt:
I would be interested in your thoughts and comments!
The second task I invested AI to undertake was to come up with a list of blog posts in the Western Esoteric Spiritual Tradition. Here is its response:

This appears to be a very comprehensive survey. However, there is one notable omission - can you spot it? And AI has included itself in the list as well ☺️ I’m sure you will discover its self-promotion!
Our next post will look into the meaning of an important word: esoteric - How do we know if we are esoteric or exoteric?
Until then, this is JR (and AI) wishing you deepening understanding and knowledge…
Next time, “Are You In or Out?”

Yes please..keep connected with.updates.
I think AI in the.right hands can be a useful tool, although it does not thus far mention the word Christ ?
With regard to “Are you in or out” ie esoteric or exoteric, I would have e to say both. If we remember our teacher said .. “these.two have to learn how to get on together!
Thank you JR for introducing such an intriguing topic.
